Last week, Mrs. Bodrey’s Food Science classes learned all about the delicious world of chemistry in food! 🧪✨ Our amazing students took their seat-work into the kitchen to see science in action. 👩🍳👨🍳
Check out what we whipped up:
Homemade Ice Cream 🍨 (A total chill factor!)
Hand-shaken Butter 🧈 (Work those muscles! 💪)
Fresh Biscuits 🥐 (The perfect way to test our butter!)
Students were able to showcase physical and chemical changes in food 🔬, as well as demonstrate the differences in mixtures. These students are proving that the kitchen is the best laboratory! 🏫💛

Going up against six powerhouse schools from across Georgia and Alabama, our Cantors held their own and brought home the silver! 🦑 Deep Dive Into Dissection Day!
Our Zoology students went under the surface to explore the fascinating anatomy of the mollusk family. Specifically, they got hands-on with the squid, uncovering the specialized structures that make these cephalopods such effective underwater hunters.
Check out what they identified:
-Mantle: The muscular "cape" that protects the internal organs.
-Siphon: The jet-propulsion engine that allows for rapid escapes.
-Beak: A sharp, parrot-like tool used to bite into prey.
-Arms & Tentacles: The difference is all in the grip! (Arms have suckers all along, while tentacles only have them at the tips).
-Ink Sac: The ultimate smoke screen for a quick getaway.
Science is definitely better when it’s hands-on! 🧪🧬

Behind that delicious scent is a whole team of hardworking Life Skills students making it all happen! From carefully measuring ingredients and following multi-step recipes to practicing kitchen safety, teamwork, packaging, and preparing items for sale in the Crimson Cafe.
They’re not just baking brownies…
They’re building math skills through measuring and budgeting, strengthening reading skills by following recipes, developing communication and teamwork, and gaining valuable job-readiness experience.
We are so proud of the dedication and responsibility they show behind the scenes to bring these sweet treats to our school community. The next time you stop by for a brownie, know you’re supporting hands-on learning, confidence, and real-world skill development.
Thank you for supporting our amazing students! 💛☕

Mr. Collins shared how his career depended on skills we practice every day in English class —
✔️ Gathering strong evidence
✔️ Verifying facts
✔️ Asking the right questions
✔️ Communicating clearly and confidently
From investigating complex cases to writing detailed reports, he showed students that reading closely, thinking critically, and communicating effectively aren’t just classroom skills — they’re mission-critical skills.
Our students asked thoughtful questions and made powerful connections between the work of a Special Agent and the work of strong readers and writers.
We are so grateful for Mr. Collins’ time, wisdom, and service. Experiences like this help our students see that the skills they build today open doors tomorrow. 🇺🇸📚

Zoology students recently dissected an annelid (specifically an earthworm) in class. Some chose to be very “hands on” and some were purely… observational but everyone got to see the internal structures we’ve discussed in class. Students identified the digestive, nervous, reproductive, and circulatory systems.

Check out what our biology scholars have been up to! 🧬🔬
Mr. Hurley's students recently dove into a closed reading activity, sharpening both their literacy skills and their scientific knowledge. This wasn’t just a quick skim—it was a deep dive into complex biological texts.
🔍 The Strategy
To master the material, students focused on two high-impact goals:
Tier 3 Vocabulary Breakdown: Students identified and highlighted domain-specific terms. By breaking down these "science-only" words, they’re building a professional vocabulary.
Paragraph Annotations: For every paragraph read, students captured the "big idea." This ensures they aren't just reading words, but truly synthesizing the concepts.
🌱 Why It Matters
In science, the ability to decode complex information is just as important as the experiments themselves. These students are training to think—and read—like real scientists!

Huge congratulations to our Education as a Profession (EAP) team! Earlier this week, our future educators took home 1st Place in the Knowledge Bowl at the PAGE Future Educator’s Day held at VSU.

VALDOSTA, GA — Lowndes High School DECA is proving that leadership starts with a great story. In honor of CTAE Month, our DECA members made a pledge to "Go The Extra Mile" by hitting the road to advocate for literacy across the district.
Our students visited multiple elementary schools, heading into K-3 classrooms to spark a passion for reading in our youngest learners. But they didn't just stop at reading stories—they launched a legacy.
Introducing: LHS DECA Page Turners
This initiative marks the official kickoff of Lowndes High DECA Page Turners, a long-term program dedicated to bridging the gap between high school leaders and elementary students.
The program’s mission is simple but powerful:
Engagement: DECA members visit classrooms to read aloud and share the joy of storytelling.
Support: To help local educators, the program donates books directly to teachers to help build and diversify their classroom libraries.
Impact: Strengthening literacy skills in our community, one page at a time.
Lowndes High DECA is committed to continuing this journey, ensuring that the "Extra Mile" leads to a brighter, more literate future for all of Lowndes County.

🔬 Science in Action! 🔬
Mrs. Croft's class became chemists! 🧑🔬👩🔬 They explored the Law of Conservation of Mass with a classic baking soda and vinegar reaction.
Watching their faces light up as the mixture fizzed and bubbled was priceless! 💫 They discovered that matter doesn't disappear; it changes form. The gas we saw escaping? That's carbon dioxide being released, and the total mass of all the products equals the original reactants. Science is everywhere!
Nothing beats hands-on learning. Shoutout to Mrs. Croft's amazing class for their curiosity and enthusiasm today! 🌟

This honor is reserved for less than 1% of high school seniors nationwide. To reach this stage, Anita demonstrated exceptional academic ability, a stellar record of leadership, and a deep commitment to her community. From her inspiring speeches at district conferences to her performances at Carnegie Hall, Anita continues to represent the very best of what it means to be a Viking.
Please join us in celebrating Anita’s hard work and this life-changing achievement! 🌟👏
