Congratulations to Miss Jamie Yates our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year!
Miss Yates graduated from Valdosta State University in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and earned a Master's degree in 2010.  She started her career at Moulton-Branch Elementary before transferring to HES in 2012 to teach English as a Second Language and Early Intervention for Reading and Math.  She taught ESOL/EIP for three years, and then moved to 2nd grade.  She has taught 2nd grade for the past four years, and has found it to be her favorite position so far!

"I love the idea that the skills I teach my students--things like telling time, counting money, and developing strategies to become better readers--are skills they will truly use for the rest of their lives.  My students are at such a fun age, and they keep me laughing and learning right along with them.  I never cease to be blown away by the growth and progress they make after only one short year.  Being chosen as Teacher of the Year has always been one of my career goals, and it is an honor I will always cherish.  I am truly blessed to be a member of the amazing faculty here at HES!"  - Miss Jamie Yates
